A World of Fitness From the Comfort of Your Chair

I would like review the Chair Dancing DVDs collectively.
I swim, do water aerobics and yoga at the Y and I wanted to expand on my workouts with DVDs that I could use at home as I am on a weight loss journey. I needed to have a variety of low impact aerobics and strength training exercises. I needed something to do that was easy on the joints and did not involve jumping around. I came across Jody Stolove Chair Dancing. I checked out the brief clips on her website www.chairdancing.com and YouTube. Not only was there low impact aerobics, there was strength training and yoga!! There was a phone number where one could actually talk with someone and get even more information. Well I ordered 5 DVDS:
Life’s a Celebration
Sit Down and Tone – Encore
More Sit Down and Tone
I admit that the first time I did Life’s A Celebration, I thought, I cannot dance on my feet, how am I going to do this. Well it does not matter. You just have to move. It has now been over 2 months and I am hooked. There is a repetitive pattern for each exercise so you have a chance to get the routine before moving on to the next routine. Also there is a separate section for each routine so if you have a hard time with a routine you can practice. This workout really really will get your heart rate up.
I had been doing strength training but not so much for my legs as I cannot do jumping and squatting. Well I do not have to worry about this anymore with Sit Down and Tone – Encore and the Sit Down and Tone – More. These 2 toning DVDs tone everything – legs, arms and even the core. On my toning days I always do both Encore and More together. One by itself is a good workout but together it is an outstanding workout.
I do a Senior Yoga class that is done standing, but the Chair Yoga takes Yoga to a new level. Who would have thought that Sun Salutations and Downward Dog could be done in a chair. This too is a great workout.
The stretching DVD is great. The stretches are gentle yet you know that you are getting a good stretch. There is a relaxing portion of this and by the way it is about 20 minutes – the first time I did the relaxing I almost went to sleep.
Well, I decided that if Life’s a Celebration was so much fun then I would get another Chair Dancing DVD to go along with what I had. I could not decide what to get so I just purchased ALL of the other DVDs that I did not have:
Original Chair Dancing
Around the World
Okay I thought this was going to be something else. This is a
compilation of a few routines selected off the other Chair Dancing DVDs. Great idea!.
Through the Decades
The First Sit Down and Tone
By the way pair original Sit Down and Tone with Encore or More and you get a TREMENDOUS strength workout.
Jodi has thought of everything. The casting in all of the DVDs are wonderful. The cast are made up of a diverse group of people that everyone can identify with. Her instructions are simple to understand. She tells you which people to follow depending on your level (easy, moderate or challenging) and encourages you to switch back and forth during the routine depending on your level (somethings you may need to go easy and somethings you can go at the challenging level). During the exercises she gently reminds you that if you are unable to do the something she gives you a modification. You can see the cast demonstrating the modifications as the camera pans through the group. There are 2 modifications that stand out for me. In one Chair Dancing DVD the routine is a 3 step and turn. The modification is just alternating step (this was helpful to me, but now I am almost able to do the 3 step and turn). The other modification is the during the cool down leg stretch. In one of the two different Chair Dancing DVDs one lady use a yoga strap to hold up her leg and in the other DVD the lady uses a towel to hold up her leg. For me I use a yoga strap. You can get the same stretch as those who can hold their leg.
I read a couple of reviewers who said that this is like having an exercise group right in your home and I just chuckled to myself. I was Chair Dancing and looking for the people that I usually follow, only to realize that they are in another Chair Dancing DVD. I would like to add that not only do you have a gym in your home, but workout buddies that show up (just remember which buddies goes with which DVD).
Yes, Jodi Stolove Chair Dancing has incorporated EVERYTHING – low aerobics, strength training, yoga and stretching. Believe me when I say all of the Chair Dancing DVDs are worth every penny! You now have fun workout options. In addition to my Y exercises I enjoy these workouts. I use the Chair Dancing DVDs 5 days a week, – the Sit Down and Tone, 3 days a week, and Chair Yoga and, Simply Stretch 2 days a week.
Finally. I am amazed that it took 3 days for the DVDs to arrive. I live in North Carolina and the company is in California.

I have arthritis in both knees and hips and needed to find a way to exercise that was low impact. This provides an excellent workout that my knees and hips can tolerate!

This fantastic program is not only good for your body but is good for your different moods! It has wonderful around the world music that you dance to while seated in your chair! I like the instructions since I am 72 and I have a bad back and hip. There are multiple levels for your comfort and age! I do it every morning right before my cup of coffee. If you cannot for any reason get out of the house... do Chair Dancing®!

I fractured my knee cap, needed surgery to set it and then was in a brace for seven weeks. I used a walker and every step was very painful. Exercise is part of my life. Not only did I miss it, but I was worried that I would gain weight by being inactive. I contacted Jodi, and within a couple of days had six of her DVD"s. I did them, sitting on the seat of my walker. Since I had such a variety, I didn't get bored. I couldn't move my right leg, so all the movement was done with my left leg and two arms. Once the brace came off, I continued with Chair Dancing, and slowly the movement came back to my right leg. First, I tapped my toes, and eventually, I could lift my leg in a bent position. I was moving aerobically, and I felt I was being pro-active in my recovery.
The best part of my day was turning on the DVD and seeing Jodi. She was so cheerful and upbeat, and I looked forward to seeing her. My six year old grand daughter would join me, waving the paper plates and concentrating with everything she had. She would encourage me. I am also pleased that in being careful what I ate, and doing Chair Dancing every day helped me to lose 10 pounds over a four month period.
I am back to my regular exercise, but still do Chair Dancing about three times a week. It has become a part of my life. I enjoy them all, but I my favorites are, " Yoga", "Around the World" and "Through the Decades".
I wish more people knew how great this exercise program is. You can do it in the comfort of your home. If you have an injury or aren't able to more around easily, or simply can't get out of the house, this is invaluable.
